      Synopsis

Linda Joy Singleton, author of the successful Seer books, returns with another hot paranormal series.

Stars are waiting to be discovered, and high-school senior Amber Borden wants to be the talent agent for the adolescent A-list. She's not the richest or the most popular, but she's determined to make a name for herself. While Amber may be upwardly mobile, her sense of direction is lousy—so lousy that it has cosmic consequences. Instead of returning to her body after a near-death experience, she lands in the body of the wealthiest, most popular girl in school—who just tried to commit suicide. Not what she had in mind when she imagined working behind the scenes with the rich and famous! Amber soon figures out that being the queen bee isn't all it's cracked up to be.

The first in a series, this paranormal page-turner introduces a teen heroine with a unique ability to solve problems from the beyond. Dead is the new black!

      Gr 8 Up

Amber Borden is clever, ambitious, and tired of being seen as a nobody by the popular crowd at her high school. She's convinced that her ticket to success is to be an A-list talent agent, and her first big break is in convincing Trinidad Sylvenski to let Amber manage her. Unfortunately for Amber, her life literally spins out of control. After discovering what the most popular girls really think of her, she has a near-death experience when she is hit by a mail truck. In the "heavens," she meets her loving grandmother and loyal dog who give her words of encouragement, the promise of better things to come, and instructions on how to return to her body. Amber is so excited with this encounter that she takes a wrong turn and winds up in the body of beautiful, wealthy, and popular Leah Montgomery. It doesn't take long for Amber to realize that Leah's life and family are in major turmoil. All she wants is her old life back, and she will do whatever it takes to make this happen. What she learns along the way are the experiences of a lifetime. This page-turner has wit, love, courage, adventure, and remarkable insight. Amber is truly a teen heroine whom readers will identify with and learn from, who brings new meaning to the word "dead." A must-have purchase for fans of the supernatural and the occult.-Donna Rosenblum, Floral Park Memorial High School, NY

      Biography

With plots involving twins, cheerleaders, ghosts, psychics and clones, Linda Joy Singleton has published over 25 midgrade and YA books.

When she's not writing, she enjoys life in the country with a barnyard of animals including horses, cats, dogs and pigs. She especially loves to hear from readers and speaking at schools and libraries. She collects vintage series books like Nancy Drew, Trixie Belden and Judy Bolton.

When Linda is asked why she'd rather write for kids than adults, she says, "I love seeing the world through the heart of a child, where magic is real and every day begins a new adventure. I hope to inspire them to reach for their dreams. Writing for kids is a gift, a responsibility, and an honor."

August 10, 2009: If you're looking for a good, fun book you've found it. The main character is witty and different. I loved how the auther made the storyline fluid and not choppy. I was captivated, but I wouldn't recommend it for my age group unless you're into this genre. Grades 6-10 may enjoy this. I loved the book enough to read the second installment.

August 04, 2009: i really really loved this series. i read both this one and dead girl dancing in one night! i am now waiting for the third one. this is about a girl who, after experiencing a near death situation, ends up switching bodies with people so that their soul can rest temporarily. this is a great seres and i definitely recommend it. i also recommend evermore by alyson noel, dead is the new black by marlene perez, the mediator series by meg cabot (writing as jenny carol), maximum ride series by james patterson, and premonitions by jude watson. and airhead by meg cabot.

I Also Recommend: Shadowland (Mediator Series #1), Dead Is the New Black (Dead Is Series), Evermore (The Immortals Series #1), Maximum Ride, Airhead (Airhead Series #1).
