      Synopsis

If you are driving, pull over. If you are at work, close your door-unless you don't mind your colleagues seeing you doubled over, in tears, on your office floor. With this CD, taped before a delirious sold out audience at Carnegie Hall, you are there as David Sedaris performs new stories from his upcoming book. A parrot who mimics an ice maker, lovers quarreling over a rubber hand, and a Santa Claus who moonlights from his job as bishop of Turkey-the cast of characters in these stories is like no other. This new work will appeal to David's loyal fans as well as admirers of the classic comedy albums of George Carlin, Bill Cosby and Steve Martin.

      Biography

Starting with his deadpan, disarmingly funny pieces on NPR and continuing with his collections of short fiction and essays, David Sedaris is one of the best, sharpest humorists writing today. His quirky history and family are rich material, but he's also just as hilarious simply satirizing Christmas cards or mocking his own vices.

A great intro to Sedarisby Anonymous

May 10, 2004: There are very few things that make me laugh out loud, and this is one of them (the cautions from the publisher about driving while listening are not exaggerated). If you've never read or heard of David Sedaris, buy this CD. Everyone I played this for, from my husband to my dad, thoroughly enjoyed it. There are touching moments (his account of a visit with his older sister, Lisa) thrown in that make this a keeper. Repeat after me: 'WE - LOVE - YOU - DAVID!'

December 22, 2003: David Sedaris is easily one of the funniest writers around today. I was doubled over in laughter throughout most of this. Anyone familiar with his work will absolutely love 'Live at Carnegie Hall'!
