Boston's newest private investigator, Macy Adams, is hired to delve into the life of an AIDS expert whose body was found in the Charles River and whose wife stands accused of his murder. Barrasso's approach to the PI genre might be considered a softer version of Sue Grafton, but her touch is as deft. For most collections.

January 03, 2009: Dark Waters is sheer pleasure! Thanks, Sibylle, for introducing us to Macy. She is great company! Curious, brainy, brave and passionate, she knows how to work her Boston connections (Brahmin and otherwise) with skill and intelligence and makes great use of her intuitive understanding of psychology. She is refreshingly real and neither cutesy nor naive. The characters and plot have depth, relationships and dialogue ring true, the settings are vividly imagined, and the writing holds the reader to every word. Looking forward to more of Macy Adams, soon!
