    Library Journal

A brilliant young scientist rises to power on Cyteen, haunted by the knowledge that her predecessorand genetic duplicatedied at the hands of one of her trusted advisors. Murder, politics, and genetic manipulation provide the framework for the latest Union-Alliance novel by the author of Downbelow Station. Cherryh's talent for intense, literate storytelling maintains interest throughout this long, complex novel. Highly recommended. JC

May 16, 2009: Although not as sweeping as "Dune", "Cyteen" delves into cloning, personal relationships, intelligence and ultimately is a murder mystery. With little to no ethical discussion of cloning, the book instead focuses on ideas about longevity and attempts to imprint clones with previous personalities. It is a smart and detailed book which leaves you wanting more.

April 09, 2005: This is a very complicated book. Involved very wordy and technical writing that those not familar with the field of life sciences will find hard to understand. It also contains some objectional material that just isn't suitable for immature audiences. The plot is interesting and contains far reaching implications, it is very informative if you are interested in the other books in C.J. Cherryh's the company wars series as this provides perspectives from the other side. This quote is to me hauntingly prophetic and realistic ''Trade and common interests have proven, in the end, more powerful in human affairs than all the warships ever launched.'' An examination of power on a grand scale, across lifetimes and light years, this has all the complexity of a book like the 'Lord of The Rings' with its own unique values and morals.
