(Hardcover - REV)
Earlier editions were titled simply Otolaryngology; Head and Neck Surgery. Note that this earlier title is preserved on the title page; the spine and cover contain the title Cummings Otolaryngology. In addition to several new editors and many new contributors, the fourth edition of this four-volume text contains updated and expanded sections on molecular biology, head and neck imaging, biostatistics, pain management, management of head and neck cancer, vertigo, facial nerve rehabilitation, head and neck reconstruction, supportive care for the terminally ill patient, voice analysis, HPV infection in children, implications of emerging antibiotic resistance, management of hearing loss, and laser treatment of vascular and pigmented lesions. The text is divided into 17 parts, most on the separate physical areas. The first 20 chapters are devoted to general considerations, with chapters on chemotherapy, skin flap physiology, free tissue transfer, laser surgery, and outcomes research. Thirty- four chapters are devoted to pediatric otolaryngology with topics including developmental anatomy, anesthesia, cleft lip and palate, glottic and subglottic stenosis, voice disorders, and reconstruction surgery of the ear. Each chapter is heavily illustrated with photos and drawings, and all the images are contained on the accompanying CD- ROM. Cummings is at the Johns Hopkins U. School of Medicine in Baltimore.
