      Synopsis

With World War II at an end, Charles Hayward is finally free to marry the woman he loves, Sophia Leonides. However, she refuses - the unexplained death of her grandfather, wealthy businessman Aristide Leonides, draws her back to the suffocating environment of her family home. Charles follows, but his arrival coincides with the discovery that Aristide's death was murder. The ensuing investigation drags Charles into the dark heart of the family, and its dark secrets and dangers. Even if Charles escapes with his life, will he survive the corrosive effect of the family itself?

      Biography

Agatha Christie is nearly synonymous with upper-class British mysteries, for good reason. She set the standard for the genre in over 60 novels and dozens of short stories, also creating two classic detectives: the fastidious Belgian, Hercule Poirot, and English spinster Jane Marple. No one could match Christie's knack for weaving clues into her stories, then turning the whole thing inside out -- shocking her readers every time.

April 14, 2009: Agatha Christie said this is one of her own personal favorites and no wonder. The plot is good, the characters are colorful and unique, and even more great is the denouement and you will be shocked and surprised of the killer's identity and their motivations.

August 30, 2008: This book is amazing! Throughout the entire period of crime-solving, the answer to the murder is practically mocking you. I had my suspicions as to who the murderer was, but I have never been more incorrect! This mystery is, as far as the reader goes, unsolvable!
