    Synopsis

    P. D. James is “the greatest living mystery writer.” –People

Headstrong and beautiful, the young housemaid Sally Jupp is put rudely in her place, strangled in her bed behind a bolted door. Coolly brilliant policeman Adam Dalgliesh of Scotland Yard must find her killer among a houseful of suspects, most of whom had very good reason to wish her ill.

Cover Her Face is P. D. James’s electric debut novel, an ingeniously plotted mystery that immediately placed her among the masters of suspense.

    From the Compact Disc edition.

    Annotation

When a sly and sensuous young woman who had used her body and her brains to climb the social ladder is murdered by someone who had clearly decided that the wages of sin should be death, it falls to Inspector Adam Dalgliesh to find out who the killer is.

    Biography

With morality-conscious mysteries that do not linger on gore, P. D. James is a sort of anti-Lecter. Her tales are told in the whodunit tradition that prizes character, restraint and the slow unraveling of both a mystery and a social niche.

February 23, 2009: Wonderful detective writing. There is simply no one currently writing who can compare with P. D. James. I encourage anyone who tries even one of her books to read them all...each is as good as the next.

November 22, 2008: The great thing about PD Jame's mysteries is that it is possible for the reader to formulate a conclusion - it isn't some obscure solution that only the detective present could formulate - nor is it served on a silver platter.

The same is true for this elaborate story...
