Description:This is the most comprehensive atlas on corneal and external diseases. The list of contributing cornea specialists is impressive, physicians who are all authoritative experts in the field. This second edition has current and up-to-date photographs and is an improvement on the first edition published in 1995.
Purpose:The purpose is to provide photographic illustrations of a wide variety of cornea and external disease related conditions. The book is perfectly organized along anatomic and disease specific guidelines, making it very easy to navigate. The quality of each photo is superb and all have obviously been selected perfectly to illustrate a particular point about a specific condition. This book will be a major contribution to the education of both general ophthalmologists and cornea specialists. The objectives of the authors have been met in this beautiful atlas.
Audience:The atlas is intended for general ophthalmologists and cornea specialists as well as medical students and people in ancillary ophthalmology fields, such as technicians. Dr. Krachmer is a world renowned cornea specialist and a well respected authority in the field.
Features:This comprehensive illustrative atlas covers the full spectrum of common and not so common cornea and external related diseases. It also covers surgical aspects of the subject, including refractive surgery. The photographs are not only of the highest technical quality with perfect color and clarity, they also highlight the most classic features of the condition being presented. Eachphotograph has a short description of the salient clinical features and a short sentence about something of clinical relevance to the case presented. This book is the most comprehensive I have seen on this subject.
Assessment:In a field such as ophthalmology, which is very conducive to clinical photography, this book is as helpful, if not more so, than a textbook on the same subject. This atlas is the most comprehensive that I have seen and this latest edition adds numerous photos and covers new relevant material since the original edition in 1995. This book adds a tremendous resource to the personal libraries of clinical ophthalmologists and can be used as a quick reference for an unusual patient that might be posing a diagnostic dilemma to the physician. More importantly, it should be an invaluable asset to the library of any ophthalmology residency program, as a valuable tool in the education of new ophthalmologists.
