Contemporary British Dramatists provides information on all influential British playwrights working for the last 45 years: biography; bibliography; 1,000-word essay providing a critical overview of the entrants' works; full list of works for stage, screen, television and radio; all play publication and production dates; and comments by the author (when available).

Covers a selection of prominent British and Irish writers for the stage (those who are currently alive as well as some who have died since 1950 but are basically considered contemporary). The entry for each writer consists of a biography, a complete list of published and/or produced plays and other separately published books, a selected list of bibliographies and critical studies on the writer, and a signed essay.
