March 22, 2004: The first time I read this book, several years ago, I thought that while many of Dr. Mendelsohn's observations were true, there was a fair amount of hyperbole and overstatement that made it a very amusing read. After 25 years in the hospital business, working at every level from pharmacy intern to Vice President, I pulled it out again to excerpt certain portions for a Bioethics class I was teaching. And I found, with additional experience, that it is in fact not overstated, and provides a keen insight into the professional culture of physicians. I love this book, and think that everyone should read it.
