Comparative Study Bible, Revised Edition: New International Version (NIV), New American Standard Bibby Anonymous

    Reader Rating:

December 07, 2005: This comparative study bible is exactly that. It allows you to compare scripture in 4 translations all side by side, which makes studying much more enriching and simplified. It's easy to follow along in a group where others may have any of these translations. The best thing is that you get a much better understanding of what the bible is really saying when you read across the columns. Having the KJV in the 1st (left) column also makes it a great bible to use while studying with the Strong's Exhaustive concordance/dictionary or the New Treasury of Scripture Knowledge, which are based on the KJV language - for very in depth study.

Comparative Study Bible, Revised Edition: New International Version (NIV), New American Standard Bibby Anonymous

    Reader Rating:

June 12, 2003: The Comparative Study Bible takes four translations and places them side by side in one book each translation devoted its own column. Sometimes bibles cause certain verses to be misintrepreted, or are bias and sometimes have verses added. Having multiple bibles can really help understanding the scriptures better than one bible alone. This bible therefore is great for understanding the scriptures I would recommend it to anyone. It is large and bulky book but has a hard cover that really helps protect its tissue like paper. This bible is four bibles in one and its great. It definately saves time, I only have to find one page not flick through four books like I used to. The bible includes the King James Version the 1873 edition while an accurate bible in its time its showing signs of age and its archaic language is hard to understand in places. Many errors have been found in the KJV and this bible really shows where they are. The NASB is a very literal translation accurate and boring but boasts its a direct translation the translators made no attempt to reword God's word for clarity just directly translated it as it is. The NIV is also a literal translation but unlike the NASB focuses more on clarity and reading. But the Amplified bible is the real reason to buy this translation it does exactly what it says Amplifies the bible. This translation adds words to each verse to clarify the meaning of the verse its not a parraphrase bible and it contains cross references and quite extensive footnotes in places. One thing the Amplified bible is not is a study bible and that's the only draw back of this book its name isn't really accurate its not a study bible. If the name was more appropriate it would get 5 stars a great and fantastic bible definately worth the money. Matthew 7:23 KJV: ' And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.' AMP: 'And then I will say to them openly (publicly), I never knew you; depart from Me, you who act wickedly [disregarding My commands]: NASB: ''And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.' ' NIV: 'Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!' '
