I haven't seen anything like this since J. Fenimore Cooper. (See Samuel Clemens' "The Literary Offenses of James Fenimore Cooper.) I have yet to find any indication that Hiltzik has ever been west of the Mississippi, much less actually set eyes on Hoover Dam or the Southwest. Excellent piece of history. Very well done too. Previous reviewer seems to have an ajenda against Hiltzik. Learned a lot about corrupt politicians (what an oxymoron) Kaiser and others involved in building the dam and fleecing tax payers and workers.

Michael Hiltzik is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author who has covered business, technology, and public policy for the Los Angeles Times for twenty years. In that time he has served as a financial and political writer, an investigative reporter, and as a foreign correspondent in Africa and Russia. He currently serves as the Times business columnist.
