    Synopsis

A prominent ambassador is killed in a suspicious hit-and-run in Washington, D.C.

Hours later, his stepdaughter vanishes in the mountains of northern New England.

Back in her hometown of Black Falls, Vermont, to do damage control on her career, Secret Service agent Jo Harper is drawn into the search. But her efforts face an unexpected challenge: Elijah Cameron.

With his military training and mountain rescue experience, Elijah knows the unforgiving terrain better than anyone. But he and Jo have been at odds forever--and Elijah believes the missing teenager isn't just lost...she's on the run.

Forced to work together, Jo and Elijah battle time and the elements in a race into the unforgiving mountains. The twists and turns awaiting them will take them closer to the explosive truth...and into the sights of a killer.

Carla Neggers is the author of more than 40 novels, hundreds of newspaper and magazine articles, and one knock-'em-dead letter to the New York Times. Her award-winning romance fiction has appeared on the New York Times, USA Today bestseller lists.

A magna cum laude graduate of Boston University and popular teacher of writing workshops across the country, Carla is known for her unique blend of humor, romance and suspense. Carla started writing as a child—she'd climb trees or hide in her closet to escape her six brothers and sisters.

Although named for her Dutch grandmother, Amalia Peperkamp Neggers, and raised by her Dutch-born father and southern mother, Carla has lived her entire life in the northeast. She and her husband recently bought a house on a dirt road on a mountain in Vermont, where they live with their two children and their irrepressible golden retriever, Lily.

    Suspense?by Jenrae

January 02, 2009: Real good story line but lacking in follow through. There was no suspense at all...and this is suppose to be romantic suspense. Also, the writing style isn't real great. Too wordy without giving enough needed info.

I Also Recommend: Killing Fear, Tempting Evil, Playing Dead, Dead Silence, Watch Me (Last Stand Trilogy Series #3).

November 14, 2008: Lots of twists and turns. Very interesting plot line and a variety of entertaining characters. I really liked Charlie, the Vice President's son who seemed to get himself in trouble no matter what he did. This is a must read and as usual, Neggers keeps you turning those pages.
