The weirdness never stops!
It's Pee Wee Football season, and A.J.'s new coach is crazy. She wants the boys to do push-ups in the mud. She wants them to pick up a car. And worst of all, she wants to put girls on the team! You'll never believe in a million hundred years what happens in the big game.
Part of the "My Weird School Daze" series, this book is a delightful exploration of teamwork, friendship, and competition. Eight-year-old Arlo (AJ) learns that his new football coach is, of all things, a girl. Not only that, but she is a girl who calls the players ragamuffins, which leaves AJ wondering what a ragamuffin is (a muffin made of rags?). Coach Hyatt teaches the team to be a team, having them lift her car and run a secret play. We also get to meet Coach Hyatt's seven-year-old son, Wyatt, whose best talent is picking his nose. Andrea is the icky girl cheerleader who ends up helping the team. Michael, a teammate, never ties his shoes. Ryan is the teammate who is constantly trying to get a bathroom break. Neil is also known as the nude kid. With unexpected humor and running gags, the author keeps the story silly enough for any kid. Boys, especially, will enjoy reading this story. Reviewer: Sue Poduska
