February 18, 2003: TO THOSE WHO HAVE NEVER READ A DIRK PITT NOVEL, I JUST WANT TO SAY, YOU ARE IN FOR A REAL TREAT. I WAS INTRODUCED TO DIRK PITT WHEN A FRIEND HANDED ME A CORY OF NIGHT PROBE. IT WAS THE MOST EXCITING BOOK I HAD EVER READ TO THAT POINT, AND I HAD READ ALL THE GREAT ADVENTURE WRITERS. I IMMEDIATELY WENT OUT AND STARTED HIS DIRK PITT SERIES WITH MED CAPER (NOT KNOWING PACIFIC VORTEX WAS ACTUALLY THE FIRST) AND BEGAN A LONGLASTING FRIENDSHIP WITH DIRK PITT. WITH EVERY NEW NOVEL THAT MR CUSSLER COMES OUT WITH IS LIKE A VISIT FROM YOUR BEST FRIEND THAT YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IN YEARS. AS FAR AS TURNING PITT INTO A MOVIE STAR, I CAN UNDERSTAND CUSSLER'S CONTEMPT FOR HOLLYWOOD. THEY ABSOLUTELY BUTCHERED "RAISE THE TITANIC". UNTIL SOMEBODY LIKE SPIELBERG OR CAMERON DECIDES TO DO IT(WHILE GIVING CUSSLER CREATIVE CONTROL OVER EVERY ASPECT OF THE PRODUCTION) IT'LL NEVER HAPPEN.
