    Synopsis

Miranda Fairchild has always blended into the background. But she still dreams of finding her fairy-tale prince.... At first glance, her new boss--dangerously charismatic Rafe Knighton--does not fit the bill.

Rafe is beginning to see that there's more to Miranda than meets the eye. Will he give this stubborn Cinderella the happy ending she deserves?

    Biography

Jessica Hart suffers from a split personality. Part of her longs to live dangerously, while there's another part that loves history, friends, family, and all those other things that mean staying at home in the U.K.

In her time, Jessica has traveled from Afghanistan to Australia, from Algeria to Belize, from Cameroon to Indonesia, with various stops en route, having a wonderful time but failing dismally on the living dangerously front. She's never quite managed a proper career either, with a haphazard series of jobs around the world.

Her last proper job was on the foreign news desk of a national newspaper. Before that she was on expedition in West Africa, cooked on an outback cattle station in Australia, taught English as a foreign language, was a research assistant for a publisher of restaurant guides, and filled in the gaps in between by working as a secretary, waitress, chambermaid, and dishwasher. Readers of Jessica's novels will probably recognize how often she has drawn on her varied experience for inspiration when it comes to setting and plot!

Now she lives in York, a historic city in the north of England. While still yearning for wide horizons, Jessica has perversely chosen to study for a Ph.D. in medieval studies whenever she's not writing romance. Although she longs to be a free spirit, this would mean selling her comfortable house, and then what would happen to Mungo, her West Highland white terrier, not to mention Walter and Charlie, two very large and very spoiled tabbies?

Jessica may dream of the desert, but she has a treacherous taste for luxury. Her idea of heaven is a sand dune in the Sahara, with mysterious access to a shower, hairdryer, and ice for her gin and tonic once the sun has set. Much as she would like to be the kind of person with challenging or creative hobbies, talking and shopping are what she really does best, and walking Mungo is about as energetic as she gets.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Jessica has yet to find a man who can satisfy both sides of her personality. Ideally, he will own a battered 4x4 and be completely at home in the wilderness, although he'll also be the kind of man you can rely on at a party. He'll be a competent mechanic, will love her dog, and know exactly when to surprise her with a romantic trip to Paris while still being able to sort out her finances and demonstrate a deep interest in the middle ages. Oh, and he has to be able to make her laugh. Jessica knows he's out there somewhere....

Jessica has recently launched herself onto the Internet.
