      Synopsis

The original Little Golden Book from the 1940s featuring Walt Disney’s Cinderella is back! This enchanting fairy tale is beautifully rendered with vintage artwork bringing Cinderella and her cruel stepsisters to life.

      Jean Boreen, Ph.D. - Children's Literature

Designated as a Classic Little Golden Book, this is the classic Disney version of the Cinderella story (first published in 1950) with slightly different illustrations. Cinderella is good and sweet and a friend to animals, the stepsisters are mean and dismissive, the prince is good-looking and love struck. Children familiar with the movie version will probably wonder why the illustrations aren't exactly "accurate," but it really won't matter as they will certainly recognize the story. For new readers, Golden Books are always a nice introduction to sanitized versions of fairy tales (no Grimm's Brothers here to scare or frighten young readers); however, if your library already has the 1950's version, there is really no reason to buy the 2005 version. 2004, A Golden Book, Ages 3 to 7.
