    Synopsis

In the midst of a worldwide epidemic of autism, ADD and ADHD, this book is a message of hope to parents embarking on the challenging journey of finding proper medical care for their Autism Spectrum Disorder children. This is the first book written by an experienced clinician that gives a step-by-step treatment guide for parents and doctors based on the understanding that ASD is a complex biomedical illness resulting in significant brain malnutrition. Genetic susceptibility activated by “triggers” such as pesticides and heavy metals in vaccines can lead to immune system impairment, gut dysfunction, and pathogen invasion such as yeast and viruses in many children. Dr. McCandless, whose grandchild with autism has inspired her “broad spectrum approach,” describes important diagnostic tools needed to select appropriate treatment programs. Her book explains major therapies newly available and identifies safe and effective options for parents and physicians working together to improve the health of these special children.

    Biography

Jaquelyn McCandless received her Doctorate in Medicine at the University of Illinois College of Medicine and is certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Doctor McCandless has been in private practice in Southern California since 1966. Since the early 1990’s, her interest in women’s issues and sexuality led to an alternative medicine practice with a focus on anti-aging, brain nutrition and natural hormone therapy. In 1996 after her granddaughter was diagnosed with autism, she returned even more to basic medicine and began working with biomedical aspects of developmentally delayed children. She now utilizes the knowledge she gained searching for treatments for her grandchild to help other ASD children.

November 18, 2002: I am so excited for other parents that this information is finally in print. We started on this therapy in October of 2001 with our then 2 1/2 yr old son who was diagnosed severe PDD-NOS, he was non-verbal and his "stimming" would continue for hours on end. 60 days on the GFCF diet, he said, ?Mommy" for the 1st time. Today, we can't get him to stop talking. This month marks 13 months on the program. We have seen more improvement than we could ever have imagined. At this rate, we have no doubt that our son will have a complete recovery. Thank you DAN! Doctors. Thank you, Dr. McCandless for publishing this information for the world to read. We have our son back! This is the most amazing book about intervention on the market today.

September 14, 2002: This book is a very concise and easy to read guidebook for parents and physicians that are just beginning biomedical intervention with autism. Sadly, we live in a time when autism which previously affected 1:10,000 children now affects 1 :150. Dr McCandless explains what is happening in these children's bodies in such a way that any physician or parent should be able to understand.
