September 27, 2009: First picked this up in the public library for my five year old grandson.
I liked it, because it was a great refresher for me...but it was a little over his head. I would recommend it for 10 years old and up.Reader Rating:

May 18, 2009: Just looking for a simple book for the very young reader (under nine) that will provide basic material? This book will do well in this respect. If you have an older child (9 on up) there are more comprehensive and better organized books available (examples: Lasker's Manuel of Chess for adult readers, Chess for Everyone for older children and adults). Along the same lines of this book is Chess for Children.
Chess for Kids has plenty of Colour and diagrams to provide visualization. Don't particularly like the order of presentation, which can be a bit confusing, especially for a child. Children under 7 will not be able to read this book and older children over 9 would do better with a more complete book. So we are really talking about an age range of 7 to 9 here.I Also Recommend: Lasker's Manual of Chess, Chess For Everyone.
