I am a long time chess player, chess book collector and elementary school teacher who has experienced the use of this book both under it's previousl title ("Chess for Juniors") and current title ("Chess for Everyone") as a classroom text book. This is the perfect book for an introduction to chess for both children (age 8 or 9) or for a person who may have been playing chess for years, but has not had formal instruction on the basics.
I have seen the other books (i.e. Dummy and Idiot Series, Chess for Kids/Children books, etc...) and simply put, those books do not compare in organization, comprehensiveness and clarity to "Chess for Everyone". And, unlike other books, "Chess for Everyone" is part of a progressive series of books, well written and designed to directly continue where the basic book leaves off (in other words you can greatly expand your study with books that are consistent with the material).
A progressive building format is used in the twenty lessons - step by step. No confusion, easy to understand and the emphasis is placed in the right areas (more complicated rules like en passant and castling have a perfect presentation!). This basic text has everything you need to get a well-rounded and comprehensive knowledge of what it takes to be able to place a decent game of chess. It isn't a silly picture book for children but provides an enjoyable read for an upper elementary school student or adult.
Learn all the basics with an in-depth coverage of the rules, opening principles and a solid basic opening system (greatly explanded on in future books in the series), all the important basic traps, tactices and checkmates, basic endgames and endgame checkmates, two complete games analyzed (move by move) and a chapter on how to continue to improve. The writing style has a nice flow and is enjoyable to read. You will certainly want to buy the entire series as you grow in chess!

October 06, 2008: Hold the presses! In case you didn't read the other reviews, this book is a brand new and completely revised edition of the famous Chess for Juniors book. Only, this time is for everyone (not just juniors). I can sum up this book quickly, it is a complete guide for anyone new to chess or even if you have been playing for awhile without formal instruction. It is very complete and easily understood. A best buy when it comes to a beginner's chess book.
