    Synopsis

Meet Tali, Schuyler, and Kim. Best friends since college, each twenty-something (okay, almost thirty) has seen her share of career foils and romantic foibles in the world's greatest city, New York. Having been friends for more than a decade, they know that they all need a change. On Valentine's Day, they are each alone for one reason or another. At dinner together, the trio makes a pact. Within one year, each woman will change the thing that most challenges her.

For Tali, good Tali, whose boyfriend of five years just left her for a personal trainer, it will be to find romance -- or a fling -- in every foreign country she visits (and given her job as a secret shopper for high-end resorts, she goes to a lot of foreign countries). For Schuyler, a book editor, her goal is to get on the other side of the typewriter and write her own book -- much to the dismay of her boyfriend, who is a Very Public Figure. And for commitment-phobic, Daddy's little rich-girl, Kim (she can't hold a...

Lily Rabe throws herself enthusiastically into her narration; she sounds like she's having a ball, and listeners will, too. Rabe especially has fun with over-the-top Brazilian sexpot Adriana, making melodramatic pronouncements and calling everyone "querida" in a sexy, throaty exotic accent. She's also great as Emmy, the marriage-and-family-obsessed member of the trio: Rabe's sobbing, outraged delivery of Emmy's rant about her boyfriend dumping her for his personal trainer is simultaneously touching and hilarious. Leigh is the "straight man" of the group, but Rabe's performance conveys her doubts about her engagement realistically and sympathetically. This fun audio brings out the best in the novel. A Simon & Schuster hardcover (Reviews, Apr. 7). (June)

    Biography

Lauren Weisberger burst into literary stardom with her bestselling look at the fashion-magazine world, The Devil Wears Prada. For her next act, the author turned her gimlet eye on another facet of the industry that manufactures celebrity and glamour: the racy realm of PR.

December 03, 2009: When I read the New York Times Bestseller, Chasing Harry Winston, I was very pleased to find a book that was fresh and enjoyable, but at the same time very well written. The novel focuses on three friends living in New York, all chasing one dream: to become engaged to the perfect man. In this romantic comedy there is a fabulous contrast between parts that make you laugh out loud, and parts that make you empathize with one of the three well-developed characters. This was an amusing read that was quite captivating and at many times was hard to put down. At the end of the chapter it leaves you wanting more, and eagerly anticipating what will happen next. I enjoyed this book because it was a lighthearted read, but definitely one I will not forget. There were lots of messages throughout the book, many denoting that you should embrace life and live it to the fullest.

I think that Lauren Weisberger has once again expressed her exquisite writing skills with Chasing Harry Winston, much as she did with her other successful novel, The Devil Wears Prada. The books are similar in the way that they both are fun, girly books, but also have entirely different plot lines making them 100% unique! I would recommend both books highly. If you are looking for a funny charming read I would highly recommend any of Lauren Weisberger's works, especially my personal favorite, Chasing Harry Winston.

December 03, 2009: After reading the book Chasing Harry Winston by Lauren Weisberger, I learned that not everything turns out the way you think when examining the front cover. A white stiletto is shown with 3 rings up the heel, which is what brought me into the book. This intriguing story is about three different girls who are best friends. It examines their lives individually and together, which I thought was a good style of writing, it left you hanging at times. One night the three best friends made a pact to each other and promised to step out of their personal comfort zones in the next year. Arianna is beautiful and glamorous, she is challenged to keep a boyfriend for at least a year. Emmy has a boyfriend all the time, and is challenged to stay away from relationships. On the other hand, Leigh's life is "perfect" in her friend's eyes; filled with the perfect sportscaster boyfriend and publishing job! The major theme in this story is that no matter what you do, follow your gut and what makes you happy, do not let other people tell you how to feel! I relate to this a lot even as a freshman in high school. As the story unfolded, I enjoyed the humorous, romantic, and often blunt comments that go through the minds of the main characters. "He grinned, and she wanted to kill him. Why did he talk like this? Was it any of his business who was on the phone?" I think people should read the book because the description and thoughts were so in detail I felt I was making decisions for the characters. The book kept you hanging at the end of the chapters! The author intended to do this, so you would keep reading. It worked! I could not put the book down especially after this quote, "A second later he was gone. she would never, ever see him again.. and could he have cared less?" I would highly recommend this book to anybody who likes a good chick flick with lots of romantic drama, and comedy involved. Chasing Harry Winston was fabulous!
