Each of five children lucky enough to discover an entry ticket into Mr. Willy Wonka's mysterious chocolate factory takes advantage of the situation in his own way.
On the occasion of its 40th anniversary, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl, illus. by Quentin Blake, presents the famous story interspersed with Blake's characteristically frenetic line drawings, with clusters of candy sprinkled across the pages. Pink, lavender, baby blue and yellow backgrounds of the pages make a sugary new wrapper for this favorite tale. Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.
More Reviews and RecommendationsKids and adults alike love Roald Dahl’s deliciously wicked books. Loved for their gleefully evil villains and their often mischievous sensibility, Dahl’s books introduce us to fantastic creatures and bizarre places -- and encourage our imaginations to run wild.

October 19, 2009: Our class read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, we checked this book out from the library. Charlie, Augustus Gloop, Violet, Veruca Salt and Mike Teavee all found the golden ticket. They were lucky winners that got to tour the factory. We learned that Charlie was a good sport, and the other kids were spoiled, mean, rude, and greedy. Our favorite characters were Charlie, Willy Wonka and Grandpa Joe. At the end of the book, Charlie won the chocolate factory. The other four kids won a life supply of chocolate. It was a fun, and exciting book to read. We liked this book because it was funny, exciting and great.
I Also Recommend: Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator.

October 08, 2009: I revisited this book because I am about to give it to my Niece to help with her reading interests. What a delightful, fun, quick book. It amazed me how the wonder, thrill and joy I had when reading this as a child came back so easily. While the movies are enjoyable in their own right, there is something even more delightful in reading this tale. The humor, fast paced, simplicity of the actual book is priceless. The beauty of the book to me is how much the imagination has to roam while reading this book. It feels like details were not there intentionally to let an imagination run wild. Dahl used just enough descriptions to get the mind running down one path, but never clearly defines it, leaving the pleasure of the story up to the reader's interpretation. I hope my Niece enjoys it as much as I did at her age, and as much as I do now.
I Also Recommend: James and the Giant Peach, The Witches, Danny the Champion of the World, BFG.
