REAL-LIFE CLINICAL CASES
FOR THE BASIC SCIENCES AND USMLE STEP 1
"Numerous case-based books exist for various medical areas, including family medicine, but the unique approach of this one makes it particularly useful for students and early level learners. The questions posed with each case are consistent with board-exam inquiries, and physicians preparing for boards will find the manual useful as well. 3 Stars."--Doody's Review Service
Clinical correlations are increasingly emphasized in the teaching of basic medical science. Students, therefore, need exposure to clinical cases to pass course exams and ace the USMLE Step 1. This book presents 60 real-life clinical cases illustrating essential concepts in family medicine. Each case includes an easy-to-understand discussion correlated to key basic science concepts, definitions of key terms, family medicine pearls, and USMLE-style review questions. This interactive learning system helps you to learn instead of memorize.

Description:This paperback manual is developed as a case-based study guide for use by clinical clerks serving on family medicine rotations. The case approach is augmented by highlighted key points and USMLE-style questions.
Purpose:The book is intended to provide a case-based learning tool for medical students rotating on family medicine services. Given the broad range of knowledge required by students in a generalist field, such an approach is most welcome.
Audience:Although the book is designed for medical students, non-physician provider students as well as junior residents will find it useful as well. The authors are faculty physicians involved with day-to-day medical education.
Features:After a useful introduction to general principles of patient management, the book covers a wide array of clinical medicine through the presentation and subsequent analysis of 52 case scenarios. Each is followed by a list of what should be the key considerations of the case (expressed as questions) , and then a discussion of the clinical implications for patient care.
Assessment:Numerous case-based books exist for various medical areas, including family medicine, but the unique approach of this one makes it particularly useful for students and early level learners. The questions posed with each case are consistent with board-exam inquiries, and physicians preparing for boards will find the manual useful as well.
