This book is a comprehensive undertaking to say the least. The editors provide evidence-based management guidelines and gold standards of care on cardiovascular disease. They include disease and illness and speak to the pre-, peri-, and post-hospital care provider. The purpose is to inform novices and update expert professionals on current standards of practice and provide a cardiac and vascular system review with applied pathophysiology. This broad based inclusive book appeals to multiple levels of practitioners, including but not limited to acute and critical care nurses, nurse specialists, outcome managers, nurse practitioners, residents, fellows, hospitalists, and family practice and specialty physicians. Because the content is focused on both the cardiac and vascular system it has meaning for a wide audience profile. The content of this book warrants national attention within the medical arena on cardiac and vascular disease. The editors speak not only to state-of-the-art standards of care but also assessment, management, and outcomes evaluation. The charts, algorithms, diagrams, and pictures are balanced well against narrative and summary content. This allows the reader to obtain information conceptually and visually. The visuals are clear, concise, and meaningful. Lab values are a special feature. The addition and update of pacemaker function is impressive to me, as is the attention given to hypertension and risk factors. I think this book is a collection of books within a book. Each chapter is credible in its own right, yet each complements the other chapters well. The editors speak to the pathophysiology and functional aspect of cardiovascular disease, and thisinformation can easily be used as a quick reference or a more in-depth study of a particular disease, illness, or procedure. I would recommend this book to both novice and expert clinicians. It is enlightening and informative.
