      Synopsis

Camile Leon is a young woman searching for the hidden truth about her absentee father, a mysterious lost necklace, and the details of her early childhood-none of which she can remember. She persistently digs for the truth, but at each attempt, her mother dodges her questions and swiftly changes the subject. Before her mother is able to reveal the truth, something terrible happens, and Camile fears she will lose her mother forever. She also fears that the details regarding her past will remain unknown.

Just as Camile loses hope on learning the particulars about her past, she makes a shocking discovery which reveals her entire life has been a carefully constructed web of deceit. Almost simultaneously, she experiences strange occurrences that shred the fabric of her reality. She blames these incidents on her extreme stress and hyperactive imagination. As the lies continue to unravel, startling facts emerge-bringing terrible heartache, confusion, and despair.

Facing a powerful nemesis, Camile must find the strength within herself to discover the truth. Failing could bring deadly consequences.

November 21, 2009: Camile Leon doesn't recall anything from her childhood. All she remembers is the rejection she faced in high school and the feel of being incomplete. She finally pressures her mom to tell her everything- what happened to her father, why is she different, and what was her childhood like- but her mom slips into a weird coma. All Camile has to figure out her mystery are a picture of her and her father, the mysterious necklace he gave her, and her new friend Akalina. I liked the book a lot and I'm interested in the sequel, the only thing is that the majority of the story is about how Camile is trying to find out who she is, but nothing is explained until the very end. Even then there were things left that will hopefully be explained in the next book. However, I enjoyed the characters, and the pieces of Camile's new world the author has revealed so far.

I Also Recommend: Wondrous Strange, Inkheart (Inkheart Trilogy #1), City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments Series #1).

Shykia's writing style transports the reader directly into the pages, so much so that you feel you can reach out and touch the characters and the scenery. Weeks and months after putting this book down you will still have these characters and places in your mind.
