Description:This is the 10th edition of a comprehensive, well illustrated yet succinct book that successfully provides valuable, up-to-date, and clinically relevant information in obstetrics and gynecology to medical students, residents in training, and practicing physicians. The previous edition was published in 2003.
Purpose:The main purpose is to provide a thorough yet concise, practical, current, and evidence-based book that covers the vast array of topics in obstetrics and gynecology with an emphasis on understanding disease pathophysiology, prevention, and treatment. The book aims to be an easily accessible resource for medical students, house officers, practicing physicians, and other healthcare professionals who are involved in providing comprehensive healthcare to women. These objectives are tremendously relevant to current practice in obstetrics and gynecology and this book has achieved them.
Audience:The book is meant as a practical guide for medical students, house officers, practicing obstetricians and gynecologists, and other healthcare professionals involved in women's health. The various authors are well versed in their particular areas of expertise.
Features:Among the topics covered in this book are early reproductive physiology, embryology, endocrinology, physiology, and clinical aspects of normal and abnormal pregnancy, labor and delivery, medical complications in pregnancy, benign gynecology and gynecologic oncology, urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse, surgical complications and management, as well as legal and socialissues in women's health. Diagrammatic presentations and flow diagrams clearly illustrate clinical scenarios. One shortcoming of this book is that it perhaps compromised depth for a wide range of topics and may not provide great detail about individual topics.
Assessment:This book has successfully achieved its goal of covering all clinically relevant topics in the vast field of obstetrics and gynecology. Its succinct format makes the book easily accessible as a reference for a wide variety of providers.
