January 31, 2002: As the co-author of this book, Yes, I am a bit biased but Pete and I spent many months of research on this book and had many of the top competitors proof read the contents. We feel it is accurate and will be of great help for anyone who wants to build a combat robot or any large robot. We both have many years of robotics experience and have used contributors who truly know their subject. I spent 25 years developing space robots for NASA projects and 'robots' for major motion pictures. My greatest interest is developing robots to assist the elderly in independent living. As a mechanical engineer, Pete has also designed combat robots, as well as his first love- walking robots. We feel that anyone with a desire to compete in this new sport will certainly benefit from the information in this book. Check out our references and listed web sites for more information, and join an active robot group such as the Seattle Robotics Society. Enjoy the book; It should be on the shelves the end of February. Tom Carroll
