    Synopsis

Millions of readers of Hatchet, The River, Brian’s Winter, and Brian’s Return know that Brian Robeson is at home in the Canadian wilderness. He has stood up to the challenge of surviving alone in the woods. He prefers being on his own in the natural world to civilization.

When Brian finds a dog one night, a dog that is wounded and whimpering, he senses danger. The dog is badly hurt, and as Brian cares for it, he worries about his Cree friends who live north of his camp. His instincts tell him to head north, quickly. With his new companion at his side, and with a terrible, growing sense of unease, he sets out to learn what happened. He sets out on the hunt.

    Annotation

Two years after having survived a plane crash into the Canadian wilderness, a sixteen-year-old returns to the wild to befriend a wounded dog and hunt a rogue bear.

    The Washington Post

As always, Paulsen spins a fast-paced tale, characterized by a refusal either to soften the often gruesome details of life in the bush (here, partially eaten bodies, wounds riddled with fly eggs and worms) or to romanticize wildlife (in this case, bears). — Elizabeth Ward

    November 28, 2009: Plot:

My book Brian's Hunt by: Gary Paulsen is about a teen named Brain . Brian is a sixteen year old boy who is on a island with some friends .Their supplies are one bow and arrow with quiet a bit of bows , a canoe , food , and also there is a cabin that they stay in . One night Brian heard some whimpering . He had no idea what it was , a coyote , wolf. Turns out it was a dog! The dog was a girl with a huge wound on her leg .Brian had no idea what happened to the dog he thinks it could have been a bear but the bear would've killed the dog . Brian never found out why the dog had the wound . Later on in the book Brian and the dog did some hunting . Oneday When Brian went to the cabin to check on his friends he found them dead ! He found some bear tracks and followed them up a cliff with the dog . When they found the bear it charged Brian almost knocking him off a cliff . Brian got back up pulled a arrow from his quiver and stabbed the bear ! The bear was dead gone and Brian returned to camp .

    Main characters:

The two main characters are Brian and the dog . Brian is a 16 year old boy who has experienced the wilderness many times like in the book Hatchet. He even is always comes prepared and knows how to fight . Brian is also very sensitive . The dog is very strong . Like how the dog survived the wound .She is also brave and much like a cat because the dog will always return to Brian .

    Theme:

The theme is to expect the unexpected because when Brian went to check on his friends they were dead.

    Like or dislike:

I like this book because it has a ton of adventure and surprising moments .

    Connect:

I connect the dog in Brian's Hunt to Ram in Boy of the Painted Cave. One they both follow a boy .Two both dogs are wild and three they know how to hunt . My second connection is I have been to the wild in Yellowstone .I have even saw a bear before too .

    Setting:

The setting is on a island at present time .

I Also Recommend: Extreme Danger (Hardy Boys Undercover Brothers #1), Hatchet (Brian's Saga Series #1).

    Book Review Outline

Book title and author: Brian's Hunt by Gary Paulsen

Title of review: Brian's Hunt Review

    Number of stars (1 to 5): 5

    Introduction

Brian's Hunt is an adventure book. The point of the book is to tell a story about a boy named Brian who is on his own on an island. I would recommend this book to anyone likes adventure or mystery in a story.

Description and summary of main points

I think the most important part of the book is when Brian finds the dog because if he didn't find the dog none of the book would make sense. I also think it was important when Brian was rowing his canoe toward his friends cabin and he didn't smell any cooking or anything from the house. You would defiantly like this book if you are looking for something to keep you interested.

    Evaluation

Two critical elements in this story are Brian not smelling anything from the cabin because it tells him something is wrong, and while Brian is hunting the bear he finds out that the bear is actually hunting him. The goal of this book was to keep the reader entertained and I think the author did that very well. I like this book better than a lot of adventure books because I like putting myself in Brian's situation and thinking about what I would do.

    Conclusion

Brian's Hunt is the best book I've read in a while. I like it because it kept me interested the whole way through and I would advise anyone who likes to read to take a look at this book.
