Life was good for Matt and Chloe. They were in love and looking forward to their new baby. But what Chloe gave birth to isn’t a baby. It isn’t even human. It’s an entirely new species that uses humans only for food—and as hosts for their young.
As Matt soon learns, though, he is not alone in his terror. Women all over town have begun to give birth to these hideous creatures, spidery nightmares that live to kill—and feed. As the infestation spreads and the countryside is reduced to a series of web-shrouded ghost towns, will the survivors find a way to fight back? Or is it only a matter of time before all of mankind is reduced to a…Breeding Ground

August 23, 2008: I have read Breeding Ground because the title of it sounded wicked and I love good creature horror novels. This book gives you a whole new reason to fear or in my case love spiders. The book is told from a first person point of view, very rare in horror novels, unless if you count American Psycho which is also told in a first view perspective. Breeding Ground tells the tale of Matt and Chloe and how they are anticipating the birth of their baby, well something strange begins to happen to Chloe, she puts on excessive weight and starts acting very strange. She does in fact have something growing inside of her, to their horror it isn't their baby, there's something else growing inside of her. Something not human. I have felt sorry for the pain that Matt has had to go through as Chloe became something she is definitely not, her attitude has changed drastically and she has acquired a hunger for raw meat. What Chloe gives birth to is an unimaginable horror that no one on Earth could have expected to happen. The nightmarish creature is like that of a spider, it is very disgusting and very mean. They are appropriately named Widows, Matt discovers that he is not alone in this nightmare, other women began giving birth to these horrific monstrosities that live to feed and kill. They coccoon their prey and feast on their flesh. If you have a strong fear of spiders then I will not recommend this book to you. It is very emotional as well because there are some characters that you will genuinely love and then there are those that you would love to hate. This is a very well written horror story and I recommend it to anyone who is looking for something different to read. This book is very tense and you will find yourself looking over your shoulder or checking the corners of the room in case you hear a soft rustling sound. I would give this more stars than it deserves. I would give ten stars to this book. The author is very articulate and knows what she wants to put on paper. This is the first book that I have read of this author and I am looking forward to reading her other previous works.

July 12, 2007: This is a book I wouldn't normally pick up, but I liked reading it. It has a little gore, excitement and wonder about the end of the world. It also made me sick to think that this was done by people experimenting...She hasn't only killed off the women, the men get there horror in the end. No spoils, but this author took a different route in writing. I was surprised at her technique and the realness. She pulls you into this world, and that is what the best authors are good at.
