David Currie was raised in a devout Christian family whose father was a fundamentalist preacher and both parents teachers at Moody Bible Institute. Currie's whole upbringing was immersed in the life of fundamentalist Protestantism - theology professors, seminary presidents and founders of evangelical mission agencies were frequent guests at his family dinner table. Currie himself received a degree from Trinity International University and studied in the Masters of Divinity program at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. This book was written as an explanation to his fundamentalist and evangelical friends and family about why he became a Roman Catholic. Currie presents a very lucid, systematic and intelligible account of the reasons for his conversion to the ancient Church that Christ founded. He gives a detailed discussion of the important theological and doctrinal beliefs Catholic and evangelicals hold in common, as well as the key doctrines that separate us, particularly the Eucharist, the Pope, and Mary.

September 18, 2009: I can not say enough good things about this book! I read it while trying to explain a few things about Catholicism to a protestant friend. Not only did this book give me an even deeper understanding and ability to discuss my faith, it convinced me all over again that I should be Catholic ... and I'm already Catholic!! I fell in love with my faith all over again.
Contrary to this though, is the book's unique ability to explain the faith in a way that is entirely understandable to someone who doesn't understand why Catholics "do what they do." It is NOT pushy, does NOT insult protestants for not being Catholic, and isn't over-the-top preachy, making you feel like you "should become Catholic or else." In fact, David Curry wrote this book in part to explain to his protestant friends why he became Catholic. Instead, it documents the key parts of our faith, explaining how each of them draw us closer to Jesus.Lastly, are you not sure about God in general? I really believe that this book does a great job talking about God and how faith in Him is able to enrich one's life tremendously. Whether you simply want to learn why Catholics "do what they do," are considering becoming Catholic, or are a Catholic who wants deeper insight into the Church and our amazing Lord, this book is for you! It will not disappoint!Reader Rating:
