One of the best selling and highly regarded volumes in the Blueprints series, Blueprints Obstetrics and Gynecology provides students with a concise review of what they need to know in their ob/gyn rotations or the Boards. Each chapter is brief and includes pedagogical features such as bolded key words, tables, figures, and Key Points. A question-and-answer section at the end of the book presents 100 board-format questions with rationales. The newest techniques in contraception and sterilization and hormone replacement therapies are covered, as are contemporary treatment options for uterine fibroids and invasive breast cancer.
A companion Website includes a question bank and fully searchable text.

Description:This is a brief paperback review book for medical students and resident physicians preparing for the USMLE Step 2 and Step 3 examinations. It uses a general, topic-based format while highlighting information in figures, tables, and key points sections, and provides 100 USMLE type questions with answers.
Purpose:The purpose is to provide high-yield, accurate clinical content for USMLE Step 2 and 3 for medical students, interns, and residents. Any recent medical school graduate can attest to the worthiness of this objective, and the authors are largely successful in meeting their goal.
Audience:Although the book is written primarily for medical students and residents, students in other fields, such as nursing, may also use this book. The depth of information is adequate for a general overview of most topics in obstetrics and gynecology, but anyone practicing in the specialty likely will find it too brief to be useful.
Features:All of the major topics in both obstetrics and gynecology, including subspecialty topics such as reproductive endocrinology and infertility, urogynecology, oncology, and maternal fetal medicine are covered. Pathologic topics are broken down by diagnosis, risk factors, and treatment options. Associated charts and pictures provide a useful adjunct to the text. A key points summary at the end of each chapter provides a quick review. Overall, the information is accurate. A bibliography of references is available only after creating an online account.
Assessment:This is an adequate review for studentsand residents not in obstetrics and gynecology looking to gain a basic understanding of topics in the field. It is similar to other review books in the breadth of topics, and is in the middle in the depth of information.

May 09, 2009: This is a great review book to have on hand throughout the OB-Gyn third-year clerkship. It has good tables and figures, a nice summary of key points at the end of each chapter, and practice questions at the end. I'd never used Blueprints before but was pleased with this one enough to use others in the future.
