An ancient line of witches . . .
An undying love . . .
A coming revolution . . .
One woman in the center of it all . . .
London, England. Mysterious. Beautiful. Full of legends and lore. It is home and a safe place for Amelia Pivens Kreutzer. For an ancient society of witch hunters, and practitioners, it is an easy place to go unnoticed. And for Scotland Yard's Denny Carlisle, on All Hallows Eve, when the Full Blood Moon reaches its highest point in the sky, it will become a city of awe and mayhem as the most powerful witch in modern history rises to avenge her lost love and forever end the ancient war among the witches and those who hunt them.
Blood Moon is the first book in A.W. Gryphon's Witches Moon Series.
Blood Moon, by A.W.Gryphon, is a wonderfully engaging story that will pull you in and become incredibly believable. Gryphon has woven a love story,a mystery,a timeless tale that all readers can relate to into an intriguing storyline that not only is readable to anyone, it is close enough to real life for a witch to read and be able to enjoy without having to self-edit untruths. There are no hocus pocus, lightning bolts from fingertips, love spells or cackling within these pages. The first thing that struck me was how seamlessly the ideas and ritual of being a witch are explained in the story itself. The main character, Amelia, starts out as a young girl and her story quickly changes from just a day to a drama that follows her throughout her life. This is not just about a story about being a witch. Gryphon has provided enough twists and turns to keep even the most clever mystery reader guessing the outcome. The best mysteries are those that connect all the story's threads and leave you wanting more. Blood Moon is certainly that sort of story. I would recommend reading this book. It is a great escape, as fiction should be. It is also wonderful to read a book full of what we witches already know in our lives: spellwork, balance, the power of history and the connection between what is and what will become. Blood Moon by A.W. Gryphon, belongs on every witch's bookshelf. It is not everyday that a book can be a work of fiction and still have such strong ties to reality in it that I find myself feeling pulled into the story because of the familiarity of the subject. Especially since the subject is witchcraft.

June 10, 2009: A great Summer Read for the beach, the car, the train, the plane, June 10, 2009
If you're looking for a good adventure that's appropriate enough for teens and thrilling enough for adults this is the series to buy. Blood Moon is a fast paced adventure filled with history and folklore. Witches live amongst us and help keep the balance of energies in the world in check until a culmination of dates and history rapidly approach and signal the coming of the Witch destine to save their lineage. But with any impending arrival there is question and doubt if they are the one and if they can handle the pressure of becoming a leader, especially when they know nothing of their past. Each person you meet in the course of this journey twists and turns as they are pulled by their individual struggle with good and evil (the line is fine and quite often blurred. We race to the end and are hit head on with a battle that pays off for the reader and characters alike. This book is a perfect summer read on the beach or rainy day indulgence with a nice cup of Joe. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for an exciting read and good writing. It will leave you demanding book 2!Reader Rating:

May 24, 2009: I find it refreshing to have been presented with a story about a powerful woman's modern day journey, which pulls into it her reluctance and draw to being a natural born witch. This book has a page turning story with a well layered character, and I loved it becuase the author put the woman first and the the fact that she's a witch second. She makes it a character trait, a big one, but she still puts what's important first and that is getting to know the character who is taking us through the story. I think there are a lot of supernatural books out there that get so consumed by the witchcraft, or vampire traits, or whatever it is, that they forget to deal with the depth of the character. With this story, the author has me thinking I'm surrounded by witches, and witches that I'd like to talk to. It's a good book. I look forward to the next one in the series. It's Harry Potter for grown ups.
I Also Recommend: The Da Vinci Code, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Harry Potter #4), Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Harry Potter #5), Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Harry Potter #7), Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter #1).
