    Synopsis

Josh Hamilton was the first player chosen in the first round of the 1999 baseball draft. He was destined to be one of those rare "high-character " superstars. But in 2001, working his way from the minors to the majors, all of the plans for Josh went off the rails in a moment of weakness. What followed was a 4-year nightmare of drugs and alcohol, estrangement from friends and family, and his eventual suspension from baseball.

BEYOND BELIEF details the events that led up to the derailment. Josh explains how a young man destined for fame and wealth could allow his life to be taken over by drugs and alcohol. But it is also the memoir of a spiritual journey that breaks through pain and heartbreak and leads to the rebirth of his major-league career.

Josh Hamilton makes no excuses and places no blame on anyone other than himself. He takes responsibility for his poor decisions and believes his story can help millions who battle the same demons. "I have been given a platform to tell my story" he says. "I pray every night I am a good messenger."

September 30, 2009: Ever since Josh Hamilton was a little boy he has known the game of baseball. He played on his brother's team and they were all five years older than him. Josh was very advanced at his age of six. As he was growing up he was being scouted by major league scouts. When Josh was in highschool at Athens Drive he was being scouted by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Josh played centerfield and pitched, but he wanted to be an everyday player so he got drafted as a centerfielder. The reason being pitchers only pitch every fifth day. Josh Hamilton was the number one pick in the 1999 draft and he signed for 3.94 million dollars right out of high school. Josh's parents followed him everywhere he went in the minor leagues. But all the coaches and players said they need to let him grow up on his own. That started it all, Josh started his rebellion by getting a tattoo that said "Hambone". From there it all went down hill. Josh got into cocaine and was sent to treatment centers, he was banned from baseball for nearly six years because he would not straighten up his life. His wife Katie stuck with him through it all though. He spent nearly all of his signing bonus on drugs. But everyone he went to for help could not get to him. But no matter how much trouble he was in he could always go to his granny's house. Josh's grandmother was the key, along with God, to getting him straight. James 4:7 humble yourself before God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. That verse saved Josh's life. Now he is back in Major league baseball and playing for the Texas Rangers
