January 21, 2008: The novel of the year has arrived. Forget about Patterson, King, Grisham and company. If you want at long last to read a work that is intelligent, gripping, and truly terrifying, pick up a copy of Lee Boyland's BEHOLD AN ASHEN HORSE. Mr. Boyland, who has an extensive background in nuclear engineering and national defense, is the rightful heir in American fiction to Tom Clancy.'

January 20, 2008: BEHOLD, AN ASHEN HORSE picks up the story told in ?The Rings of Allah.? Islamic terrorists have shattered America?s security. Five of her cities, including Washington, DC and most of the federal government, lie in radioactive ruins destroyed by nuclear bombs. Now it?s up to one no- nonsense, actions-speak-louder-than-words president to set events in motion that will change the geo-political shape of world for centuries to come. What follows is a well-plotted, action-packed story of survival?survival of America and survival of the West. By creating a cross section of typical American citizens acting out fictionalized post-nuclear-attack scenarios the author challenges the reader to face potential real life situations: some, which many would rather not face, and some, which?as the author himself states?are unsolvable except by force. Boyland takes the reader where no author has dared to go. As the shadow of radical Islamic forces hurtle the world closer to an atomic Armageddon, Secretary of Homeland Security George Alexander 'a retired USAF major general', the only surviving Cabinet member, becomes president and sets about saving the nation. While assembling an interim Cabinet, Alexander must deal with downed communications, a closed banking system, interrupted commerce and oil shipments, domestic jihads, liberal obstructionists, and attacks on Jordon and Israel, before turning his attention to subduing the civilized world?s oldest enemy?the rabid Islamic adherents to Allah?s messages to the Prophet Mohammed and their New Islamic Empire. An empire headed its new caliph, Saladin II, formerly Mohammed al-Mihdar, master terrorist behind the five American bomb attacks. Realizing he must determine the true nature of the enemy, Alexander forms a religious committee of experts to answer his all consuming question? Is the West is fighting the Islamic Empire or Islam the religion? In one cut-to-the-chase chapter the author clearly and concisely documents the answer. Other evil forces in the world smell blood and use America?s weakened condition to use the situation to their advantage. Kim Jung-il and Hugo Chavez prance upon the stage of world events?only to be heard from nevermore. The fates of several characters left untold in the cliff hanger ending of ?The Rings of Allah? are revealed. Like wise? implying a sequel?the fate of newly introduced characters is unrevealed in Behold and Ashen Horse. A new love interest is introduced, which suggest of serious complications for three charismatic characters. Boyland continues his trademark style of anchoring the story in historical events and accurately describing weapons and their use. This time military engagements are added, and the reader is introduced to advanced weapons. Tom Clancy, my favorite novelist, was the undisputed king of 20th Century Cold War political technothrillers. ?Behold, an Ashen Horse? places Lee Boyland on the road to claiming the crown for the 21st Century war with extremist Islam. Once started, the book is impossible to put down.
