This board book bids good night to sea creatures amid crisp, soothing images of stars, seaweed, bubbles and waves. "Night is dark, baby shark," says a little, orange fish to the nonthreatening shark, adding, "Make no fuss, octopus," to a haughty, pink cephalopod on a later spread. In the end, a large yellow goldfish kisses the little fish good night: "Time for sleep in the deep, deep, deep." Utterly serene from start to finish, with the bonus of introducing some interesting sea creatures. Up to age 3. (June)

There are so many board books that deal with nighttime, bedtime and bedtime rituals that this slight board book offering may not be your first choice. A stylized little fish has been advised that it is time for sleep. So, off she goes to say goodnight to a baby shark, a skate, an octopus, a jellyfish, and a humpback whale. Some of these creatures may actually be predators. A smiling fish returns to her mother for a kiss, and then it is time to go to sleep "in the deep, deep, deep." For the very youngest of children, there may be some appeal in the simple illustrations and the naming of several sea animals. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
