May 01, 2009: Jane E. Spur shares her humor and her love for the beach with readers. She writes in a conversational style. I could picture myself sitting across a patio table from her, sipping a drink with a tiny umbrella, while we discussed her latest beach escapade. I was laughing aloud at her story of the blow up boat. I could see her blowing up that boat. The story about the surfing lesson is a classic. Spur must be a hoot to be around. She is the kind of friend we all need, one that will make us laugh even if it takes black shoe polish. Beach Chair Diaries is a must-read.

August 13, 2008: I normally do not review a book after reading just fifty pages, but life events got in the way. Thus, I have had to set aside Beach Chair Diaries, though the infectious humor contained in the first essay stays with me. ?Surfer Girl? is an account of author Janet Spurr?s strenuous and wonderful midlife achievement?and I found myself applauding her pursuit of a long-held dream. The essays I read are warm and entertaining, and Janet captures a variety of summer beach experiences. The accounts are followed by thoughtful ?Low Tide Times,? which encourage readers to think about and act on their own dreams 'while Janet cheers them on!'.
