    Synopsis

When a young Bruce Wayne watched in horror as his parents were murdered, the legend of the Batman was born. Collected here are the first stories of the masked vigilante as they were originally printed in 1939. These stories include the classic first appearance of the Batman and the introduction of his teenage ally, Robin. These early adventures show how a dark and grim character and his humorous and light sidekick were masterfully combined to create one of the most enduring partnerships of all time.

August 09, 2001: These stories from 1945 & 1946 portray Batman as a Good Samaritan helping people from all walks of life to live in peace and pursue prosperity. As in movies from the mid-forties, the virtues of honesty, trust, and hard-work are stressed. Many of the characters are getting married, or starting their lives over and in some way are trying to put the war behind them to pursue the American Dream. And if crooks, swindlers, or even the Joker try to stop them; the Batman is there, like a guardian angel, to help set things right.
