    Synopsis

Found: One girl, age 13. Unconscious. Unharmed. Unclaimed. Unidentified.

    Lost: Everything.

JD may not know the truth about her past, but she knows she's in danger, and she can't shake the dark visions haunting her dreams. She won't be safe until she figures out who she is and where she came from. She can trust no one, not even herself--especially not herself. Because it turns out there's one thing even more terrible than forgetting her past: remembering.

    Publishers Weekly

The first title in Wasserman's Chasing Yesterday series puts a supernatural spin on a classic amnesia storyline. A girl awakens in the aftermath of a powerful explosion, with only the shadowy memory of a man standing over her body. She is taken to a hospital to recover from her extensive injuries; when her doctors discover she has no memories of who she is, she christens herself JD-short for Jane Doe. Because her family cannot be located, JD is taken to a juvenile hall, where she befriends an orphan named Daniel. JD is plagued by nightmares both when she sleeps and often during the day (in one she is in a grassy meadow and a helicopter crashes in front of her), and several strange incidents hint that she has a vast reserve of power within her that erupts when she's threatened. A woman claiming to be JD's mother eventually comes for her, but JD has no memory of her mother or her former home, and she clings to her self-created identity. Her mother takes her to see Dr. Styron, a psychotherapist, in an attempt to recover her memory, and while he says that she is making progress, JD's distrust of both him and her mother only increases. Ultimately, JD decides to flee her mother and Dr. Styron, convinced that they are not who they claim to be. A thrilling climax will likely whet readers' appetites for the next installment. Ages 8-up. November 29, 2009: Chasing Yesterday

What would you do if you woke up in a hospital without knowing who you were? Chasing Yesterday; Awakening by Robin Wasserman is about what a girl named J.D. who had that happen to her.

The protagonist, J.D is a thirteen year old girl who couldn't remember her past. Her real name was Jane Doe but her "mom" said her name was Alexa Collins, and she just couldn't remember. J.D. has nightmares whenever she drifts into sleep. She needs to find out her past, but isn't sure where to start. Her best friend, the only one she can trust, is a boy named Daniel, who she only knew a couple days.

J.D. woke up in the hospital without knowing her past. She was apparently found in the middle of a terrible explosion. After the hospital fixed her cuts and bruises, they sent her to the Center, a place for unwanted children, or children who into her body and in others, he was telling don't have a home. She threw the mean girl, Mel, a couple feet away and she didn't even touch the girl when they got in a fight. J.D. didn't even know how she did it. Two days after J.D. was at the Center, her "mother" came to get her and said J.D.'s real name was Alexa Collins. "Alexa" was going to a "family friend", a doctor named Dr. Styron. She knew him from her dreams. In some dreams, he was injecting green liquid into her body and in others she was blowing up a building. Can J.D. find out her past before it's too late?

Although it doesn't say the time, you can make an assumption that it takes place in the present day. It doesn't explain where they are in the world either. Although, you can see it takes place mostly in hospital- themed places and outdoors.

Chasing Yesterday's theme is trust, believing in yourself and a little about friendship. J.D. learns to trust Daniel and also, he makes her believe in herself that she can do anything. Daniel becomes J.D.'s best friend and they've only known each other a couple days.

This is a great book for people like me, who like it when you can make movie of the book in your head. I love this book because the whole time something exciting happens. It is so spellbinding that you can't pull your eyes away from it for more then a couple seconds. You'll tell yourself, "I have to go do something, I'll read one more paragraph". The next minute, or so you think, you look at the clock and it's been an hour. That sure happened to me.

This book reminded me of the maximum ride series by James Patterson. The protagonist, Max, is like J.D. because they are both on the run. Also, the people chasing them are both scientist who created them. Both girls are strong but weak when it comes to a nice, comfortable room. They both have parents that are part of the business that turned them into who they are now as well.

This book also reminded me of the world because we could become that advanced. Our technology is sky rocketing, and we might be able someday to have people with unordinary powers and only use our minds to control everything we do. We might loose our memory like J.D. did from an explosion we caused with our mind. Everything might be this advanced and technological some day and we might be able to do this. There might be scientists today who are working on trying to make this possible right this very instant.

I Also Recommend: Twilight, Harry Potter Paperback Boxed Set (Books 1-7), Running Out of Time, The House of the Scorpion, Found (Missing Series #1).
