    Synopsis

Featuring over 1,300 full-color illustrations, this atlas is a comprehensive, hands-on guide to more than 100 medical procedures most commonly performed in an office setting. The book presents step-by-step instructions and illustrations for each procedure and discusses strategies for avoiding common pitfalls. Each chapter includes ordering information for necessary equipment or supplies, CPT codes, ICD-9 codes, global periods, and average U.S. fees for each procedure. Some chapters also refer the practitioner to patient education handouts that will appear online.

A companion Website will offer the fully searchable text, over 100 patient education handouts, and videos of ten common procedures.

    Doody Review Services

Reviewer:Vincent F Carr, DO, MSA, FACC, FACP (Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences)
Description:This is one of the best, if not the best, book for understanding and learning how to perform the basic outpatient procedures in the primary care office.
Purpose:The purpose of this book is to teach. The editor praises his 5th grade teacher who taught him the love of reading that ultimately brought about his own book. The underlying purpose of this book is to teach primary care and emergency medicine providers the skills necessary to provide primary care services. The editor and contributors have reached high and have accomplished their task extremely well.
Audience:The audience includes primary care and emergency medicine providers, resident or attending, as well as the nursing and technical staff who are called upon to prepare the patient and assist in the procedure. For the most part, the contributors are highly experienced practitioners and teachers.
Features:The value of this book lies in is the completeness of the information; the explanations of the important aspects of the procedure; the equipment lists; the pictures and videos of the procedure and the CPT billing codes associated with the procedures. A tremendous addition is the online version of the book, which makes the information readily available, but also includes excellent videos of the procedures. The bibliography is current and the index is very helpful.
Assessment:This is a most necessary addition to every training program in primary care or emergency medicine. It is one of the best books on outpatient procedures and there arenot many that come anywhere close. In retrospect, this is the book I wish I had in my training 30 years ago.
