    Synopsis

A complete short novel, AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS is a tale of terror unilke any other. The Barren, windswept interior of the Antarctic plateau was lifeless--or so the expedition from Miskatonic University thought. Then they found the strange fossils of unheard-of creatures...and the carved stones tens of millions of years old...and, finally, the mind-blasting terror of the City of the Old Ones. Three additional strange tales, written as only H.P. Lovecraft can write, are also included in this macabre collection of the strange and the weird.

    H.P. LOVECRAFT = MASTER OF HORROR!!by hasenbusch

October 27, 2008: Mountains of madness is chilling and reminds me of the movie The Thing with Kurt Russell who is with a team of researchers at the North Pole. This book is really frightening just like HPL is masterful at doing. My favorite horror writers are HPL, Robert E. Howard, Hazel Heald, and Edgar Allen Poe. There are a couple of chilling and frightening stories that gave me nightmares and they are both from the The Horror in the Museum - 24 Chilling Tales by HPL and others. Both stories are by the same writer - Hazel Heald. First story is The Man of Stone and the other one is Winged Death. Pigeons From Hell by Robert E. Howard is chilling, too. Never read these stories late at night by yourself with limited light and if you hear someone whistling it's too late for you.

I Also Recommend: Dreams of Terror and Death, The Horror in the Museum, The Black Stranger and Other American Tales, The Neverending Hunt, Lurker in the Lobby.
