Arthur's wrong guess about the identity of the secret admirer sending him valentine messages leads to teasing by the other children, but clues in additional messages allow him to get his due.

    Annotation

Arthur's new secret admirer is showering him with love notes--and making his life miserable! "A fun-filled addition to any collection."--School Library Journal. Full color.

    Children's Literature

Arthur is getting valentines from a secret admirer--who can it be. He is teased by his classmates and is quite embarrassed. When his secret admirer sends him a ticket to join her at the movies, Arthur decides to turn the tables. He does get the last laugh. The book received many starred reviews and was an IRA-CBC Children's Choice in 1981. Kids who compare this book to the current Arthur stories will notice the change in the faces of all of the characters.

    Biography

Two things suggest that Arthur, the loveable star of children’s books and the PBS series, may not be so fictitious after all: 1) Kids are known to call Marc Brown’s house looking for their bespectacled friend and 2) Brown’s third grade class picture -- according to many, a dead-ringer for the aardvark himself.
