When Artemis Fowl's mother contracts a life-threatening illness, his world is turned upside down. The only hope for a cure lies in the brain fluid of the silky sifaka lemur. Unfortunately, the animal is extinct due to a heartless bargain Artemis himself made as a younger boy.
Though the odds are stacked against him, Artemis is not willing to give up. With the help of his fairy friends, the young genius travels back in time to save the lemur and bring it back to the present. But to do so, Artemis will have to defeat a maniacal poacher, who has set his sights on new prey: Holly Short.
The rules of time travel are far from simple, but to save his mother, Artemis will have to break them all.and outsmart his most cunning adversary yet: Artemis Fowl, age ten.
Criminal mastermind Artemis Fowl is back home after three years of fighting demons in Limbo. Life, in those three years, has moved on without him. He is now a big brother and showing a softer, more domestic side. But his days of finger painting with his two-year old twin brothers come to an abrupt end when his mother is diagnosed with Spelltropy, a life threatening illness of fairy origin. Unfortunately the only cure is in the brain fluid of the now-extinct silky sifaka lemur (extinct because of a younger Artemis's do-whatever-it-takes bargain). With the help of Holly Short and the demon warlock known only as No. 1, Artemis must go back in time to find and stalk his 10-year-old self in a desperate attempt to snatch the lemur and return it to the present in time to save his mother's life. A fast-paced action-filled plot with the countless twists and turns inevitably thrown up by time travel! It is confusing, as Artemis says, but the adventure will keep readers turning the pages to find out what happens next. Fans of the "Artemis Fowl" series will love becoming reacquainted with Artemis, his sidekicks (don't stand behind that earth-eating tunnel digger, Mulch Diggums) and his arch-nemesis, the evil pixie Opal Koboi. And after reading this book, it is likely that new readers will want to go back in time to read about Artemis's beginnings. There is a secret coded message that runs along the bottom of the pages of this book. Can you crack the code? Good luck! Reviewer: Anita Barnes Lowen
More Reviews and RecommendationsIn the summer of 2001, Eoin Colfer was a teacher in Ireland who had just finished up a book called Artemis Fowl -- about a boy in search of fairy gold. Colfer struck gold himself when his high-tech fairy tale starring the intrepid 12-year old "criminal mastermind" became a blockbuster bestseller that many considered to be the heir apparent to Harry Potter.

November 12, 2009: This book was given as gift to my preteen grand-daughter whom enjoyed it very much. I read it beforehand to make sure it was appropriate. To me an adult it was very interesting, fact-filled, exciting and fast paced. I know I will buy and read some more of Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowler books in the future.

November 12, 2009: The theme of the book was time travel. I think the author's purpose of this book was to get people interested in time travel. This book contains many characters, has terrible plot, and has an okay theme. Eion Colfer likes to write suspenseful books and books full of action. I judged this book on action and good detail.
Artemis Fowl and his friend, LepRecon private Holly Short, travel through time to save Artemis's mother. I did not like this book because it was very boring. Artemis, Holly Shory, and Butler were the main characters in the book. The book was well discribed but did not have a lot of action. Characters, plot, and the theme are very important things for a book to have. Artemis must travel through time to save his mother from a terrible disease. This book was terrible. It didn't have anything I was looking for. I give this book 2 out of 5 stars because it was dull and did not have any action.
