      Synopsis

The hottest, most lucrative trend in wedding photography is gorgeously illustrated and explained in this cutting-edge guide that shows professional photographers -- and those aspiring to be -- how to create the arty, hip, yet elegant wedding albums sought by today's brides.

Images that look like they're from magazines or art galleries fill these inspiring pages. Taken by a highly successful specialist in wedding photography, the pictures tell their unique, romantic story with a visual artistry and excitement that differs from staid, traditional wedding albums of the past.

The book explains all the creative techniques-including wedding photojournalism -- that produce such compelling pictures, and also fully explores the business side of wedding photography. Everything from finding clients to shooting the event and capturing the heartbeat of the day to selling the album and getting referrals is covered lucidly, with wisdom, authority, and humor-adding up to an immensely useful guide that can transform the career of anyone wanting to break into the profitable field of wedding photography. And for future brides, the book will provide visual inspiration on the must-have photography they want for their big day.

      Library Journal

These two books are remarkably similar in content and approach. The authors are experienced and successful wedding photographers; Ferro has shot over 10,000 weddings, and Cantrell complements her work at weddings by publishing in leading popular magazines. Both books cover all the essentials of planning and undertaking a wedding shoot. The Art of Wedding Photography is logically organized into a traditional format, with chapters treating every part of the wedding: before the ceremony, the ceremony itself, formals, and the reception. The concluding chapters discuss the wedding album and various aspects of marketing one's services. The photographs that illustrate the book are strikingly original. In Wedding Photography, Ferro covers the various parts of the wedding but also discusses a number of specific techniques for making wedding photographs. Many tips are obvious--the magic of make-up and the appeal of soft focus, for example. However, the book includes many other nuggets of sound advice, such as hand posing and using the veil as a prop. The book is generously illustrated with excellent color photographs, including both traditional wedding poses and creative techniques. Both books will be helpful to professionals and to amateurs who are looking to break into this lucrative area of commercial photography. Recommended for subject collections in academic libraries and popular photography and career collections in public libraries.--Raymond Bial, Parkland Coll. June 30, 2004: This is such a terrific book for beginners. It inspired me with its photographs and educated me with its text. If you're interested in creative wedding photography and sick of the same old traditional posed portraits, then this is the right book for you. I could have paid 10 dollars more and it still would be worth it!
