March 06, 2003: From the first paragraph to the last, Susan J. Napier?s Anime from Akira to Princess Mononoke: Experiencing Contemporary Japanese Animation had me hooked. Being an avid anime fan, an otaku if you will, I found this book a very enjoyable read. If you have read other `anime in depth? style of books, you will be surprised. Instead of writing off anime as s rip-off of American live action film, Anime from Akira to Princess Mononoke: Experiencing Contemporary Japanese Animation defends anime and contradicts many points presented by other authors. This book is very objective in its approach to anime. Anime from Akira to Princess Mononoke: Experiencing Contemporary Japanese Animation is quick to point out that fans of anime watch it because it is different from everything else. It also talks about the three main styles that make up anime, the apocalyptic, the festival, and the elegiac mode. This book is written very well. It flows from chapter to chapter without stumbling. Anime from Akira to Princess Mononoke: Experiencing Contemporary Japanese Animation goes into great depth with its notes section and bibliography. Even the index goes into great depth to encompass everything that has anything to do with anime. There are really no weak points in this book. A great book. You should read this book even if you are just slightly interested in anime. However, if you have no interest in anime this will be the most boring book in the world. This book will make you more aware of anime. No longer will you think about anime in the same way again.

February 20, 2003: This book does a lot of good explaining on the features of Anime, but the cover doesn't look much worth it, but you'd really get some good information if you don't judge it by it's cover. The number of tips are really fertile and you don't have to flip through all the pages to find one specific thing that only appears at that section. It shows some pretty neat things.
