Android epistemology is the
exploration of the space of possible machines and their capacities
for knowledge, beliefs, attitudes, desires, and for action in
accord with their mental states.
Contributing computer scientists and philosophers examine, defend, elaborate, and challenge the idea that machines can be designed to reason, create, and act on preferences and desires. They incorporate material from the fields of artificial intelligence, robotics, neural networks, linguistics, and cognitive psychology in discussions on the representationalist hypothesis, computer vision and pattern recognition, reflexive mental characteristics, and the robotic use of memory and imagination in planning goal-directed motion.
