Disturbed by "visions" of a giant human skull without its lower jaw, Kathy stumbles across what might be an important artifact-a lower jaw made of crystal. When it is stolen from Concha's cabinet, Kathy's friend's Aunt Luna, a curandera (healing woman) and an adamant opponent of modern medicine, is the prime suspect. If Kathy's friends in some way represent the scientific worldview, and Luna the "ancient ways," then Kathy is the bridge between them, the link to show that the best path brings past and present ways together.
