    Synopsis

A swarm of terrorist activity has put the United States on its most heightened alert level since September 11, 2001. Investigations into each of these seemingly unrelated acts uncover the same cryptic codeword: Allah’s Scorpion.  Former CIA Director Kirk McGarvey is called into action. Masterminded by Osama bin Laden himself, Allah’s Scorpion may be the ultimate strike against America, a grand finale to what began on 9/11. A pair of Russian nuclear missiles that were spirited into Libya just before the invasion of Iraq are in transit to an undisclosed launch site in the Atlantic Ocean. With the help of the Gloria Ibanez, a tough, but sexy Cuban-born CIA agent, and Otto Renke, the eccentric computer genius in the CIAs Special Projects division, Kirk McGarvey must track down the ever-elusive bin Laden in hopes of knocking out Allah’s Scorpion.

    Publishers Weekly

At the vivid start of Hagberg's latest thriller to feature former CIA director Kirk McGarvey, al-Qaeda terrorists attack Camp Echo-the part of the U.S. base at Guant namo where detainees deemed to be harmless are held while their release is arranged-and help some of these prisoners escape. It appears that Osama bin Laden is putting together a crew of naval experts to pull off an attack on a seaport on America's West Coast that will dwarf even the horrors of 9/11. As McGarvey, who comes out of retirement, and a tough, sexy Cuban-born CIA agent, Gloria Ibenez, prepare to fight off what al-Qaeda has code-named Allah's Scorpion, Hagberg (Soldier of God) once again displays his wide and deep inside knowledge of intelligence and military tradecraft-including details of how Osama and his men hide from American spy satellites. Too many tongue-twisting names of weapons and equipment might slow down the action for some readers, but the full thrust of the narrative soon takes on a life of its own. (Jan.) Try Hagbergby DicktheTiger

March 03, 2009: Hagberg is an author in the style of Flynn and Silva. His main character. like Flynn's and Silva's, is a super assassin, but with a real family that causes conflict.

This was probably the most entertaining read I've had all year. The story goes very well until the ending, where the author resorts to a contrived ending that leaves you scratching your head, but probably setting up a sequel to tie the loose ends.

January 14, 2008: Mr. Hagberg has rekindled my love for reading with his fast-paced thrillers. Allah's Scorpion made me want to read more of Hagberg's books. I especially like the Kirk McGarvey series. All of the characters are well developed and you can't help wanting more after reading one of these books. I bought every Hagberg novel I could find at 4 different bookstores (11 books) and I just started the 6th one in 16 days. All I do is work and read now. I'm on this site now trying to track down more McGarvey stuff. Truly amazing writing! Hagberg is the man!
