Synopsis

A serial killer is loose in Richmond, specializing in attractive young couples whose bodies are inevitably found in the woods months later -- minus their shoes and socks. After months of exposure to all the elements, all that remains of this killer's victims has in every case left Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Kay Scarpetta unable even to determine an exact cause of death. Frustrated that her high-tech forensic skills have apparently proved useless, Kay enlists the help of and ace crime reporter and a psychic whose powers have been vouched for by the FBI.

Racing against time, Kay finds she must draw upon her own personal resources to track down a murderer skilled at eliminating every clue. All that remains to her now is her courage and intuition and the will to stop a killer before he can strike again.

Annotation

The third chilling novel featuring forensic pathologist Dr. Kay Scarpetta. For gutsy Medical Examiner Scarpetta, the vicious serial killer who stalks the woodlands of Virginia has become her worst nightmare.

A heckuva good thriller. —USA Today

Joe, an avid reader of mystery/thrillers, 11/25/2006

While this was a quick and exciting read, I was disappointed by the way she very neatly ties up all loose ends in the last several pages with 'information' that had not previously been a part of the story. The climax does not arise organically out of the situation/characters as it does in the best mystery novels.

Dr. Kay Scarpetta is dealing with a serial killer who targets young couples. Four couples have come up missing, only to find their murdered bodies months later. The fifth and most recent couple, Deborah Harvey and Fred Cheney, never returned home. Pat Harvey, the mother of Deborah Harvey and Fred Cheney, never returned home. Pat Harvey, the mother of Deborah Harvey is the National Drug Policy Director, and they have assumptions that the case has some relation to her job. Months later after finding nothing else that helps the case, they find their remains in the woods. The reporters linked the couple’s deaths to the first four couples that came up missing. Dr. Kay Scarpetta finds herself dealing with a killer who leaves a jack of hearts card at every crime scene though they haven’t found one at the most recent scene. Dealing with all of the reporters, politicians, and cops puts a lot of stress on Kay Scarpetta, State Medical Examiner of Virginia. All That Remains is very suspenseful and will keep your attention. Patricia Cornwell uses her knowledge of crime to her advantage when writing this compelling book.
