He could tell it was going to be a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. He went to sleep with gum in his mouth and woke up with gum in his hair. When he got out of bed, he tripped over his skateboard and by mistake dropped his sweater in the sink while the water was running. He could tell it was going to be a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.
It was a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. Nothing at all was right. Everything went wrong, right down to lima beans for supper and kissing on TV.
What do you do on a day like that? Well, you may think about going to Australia. You may also be glad to find that some days are like that for other people too.
On a day when everything goes wrong for him, Alexander is consoled by the thought that other people have bad days too.
Objecting loudly to his family's plans to relocate, the hero of Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day "makes a gratifying return," said PW. Ages 5-8. (Aug.)

November 11, 2009: I bought this book for my granddaughters, and it had also been a favorite of my daughters as they were growing up. It is always nice to know that other people are having a "terrible, horrible, no good, very bad" day, once in a while. It does not dwell on the negative, and is very realistic, making it a good balance for children and adults both.
As an adult, one day at work, we were all having a challenging time, and the next day, this book mysteriously appeared, and we all re-read it, and laughed about our previous day. I highly recommend this.I Also Recommend: If You Give a Cat a Cupcake, Carl's Sleepy Afternoon, Carl Goes Shopping, Carl's Afternoon in the Park, Good Dog, Carl.

July 04, 2009: This book is a great way to teach your children, that they will have many bumps in the road. You will have difficult days just like Alexander. I have purchased a dozen copies for family and friends who have young children.
