June 20, 2009: Simply put, Evening writes the best of the comprehensive Photoshop books for photographers. Many great tips and tricks withing this text. Others may do individual topics in much more depth but Evening's work is overall much more useful. His recent book with Jeff Schewe, CS4 for Photographers, The Ultimate Workshop is also a great buy for those who wish to take their knowledge to a new level.

April 07, 2009: The book is well organized, very extensive and very well edited. If you are interested in the technical aspects of Photoshop, the book covers almost all the subjects of this software in good depth. The major flaw is that the author did not pay enough attention to the hands-on training that other Photoshop books provide. To begin with, many images shown in the book are not included in the lessons file contained in the CD. To follow the work performed by author on these photos is frustrating and time consuming. Also, the photos included in the CD correspond to the final edited version. A more comprehensible approach should have been to provide the original version of the image and let the reader work through the editing process. The description of the editing work perfomed by author on a given image lacks, in many instances, sufficient details, assuming that the reader knows how a certain task is performed, which is not necessary the case (some editing even includes subjects which are covered in subsequent chapters). It is regretable that the author did not pay enough attention to the fact that this type of book is not for mere reading, but for practicing as you go.
